Rear Admiral Sinan Azmi Tosun
Commander Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (COM SNMG2)

Rear Admiral (LH) TOSUN was born in Istanbul in 1965. He graduated from the Naval Academy in 1986 and commissioned as an Ensign.

Following his graduation, he served as Division Officer and Department Head on board various types of ships including frigates, fast patrol boat and landing ships from 1986 to 1997. He served as Principal Warfare Officer and Executive Officer on board Meko Class Frigate TCG BARBAROS (F-244) from 1999 to 2002.

Following Executive Officer duty he was appointed to his first staff duty in the Turkish Fleet Command Headquarters as the Chief of Exercise and Training Section between 2002-2004.

On completion of that duty, assumed Command of Meko Class Frigate TCG SALİHREİS (F-246) as Commanding Officer between 01 July 2004-03 August 2006.

Following Frigate Commander duty, he served in Naval Surface Training Center as the Head of Computerized Simulators Training Group from 2006 to 2007. After that, he served as Defense, Naval and Air Attaché to Roma/Italy between 2007-2009. Later, he assumed the duty of Commodore, Destroyer Division-I between 2009-2010. 

Rear Admiral (LH) TOSUN was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral (LH) in August 2010 and was appointed as the Head of Operations & Training Section in Turkish Naval Forces Command HQ and assumed that duty as of 10 August 2010.

As his academic career, he graduated from the Turkish Naval War College and the Turkish Armed Forces College with honor in 1999 and 2003, respectively. He also attended International Principal Warfare Officer Course at School of Maritime Operations (HMS DRYAD) in Portsmouth/England in 2000. Rear Admiral (LH) TOSUN has MBA Degree on Administration and Organization from Beykent University/Istanbul.

Admiral TOSUN is married to Mrs.Özlem TOSUN and has a daughter named Simay and a son named Oğuzhan.       

Admiral TOSUN speaks English and Italian.
