SNMCMG1 2009

11 Dec 09

HNOMS RAUMA

Oct 2009

Would you like to work in the middle of the M25?
That is exactly what SNMCMG1 did when they undertook an historic ordnance exercise in the North Sea near Rotterdam.
Rotterdam is one of the busiest ports in Northern Europe, meaning the shipping lanes leading into it are the North Sea's equivalent of the infamous M25 (
London's busiest motorway).
SNMCMG1 ships are an average 500 tons, they look for and destroy any explosive device (bomb, mines, etc...) with 50.000 ton vessels sailing close to them.
In spite of the "heavy traffic", SNMCMG1 located and destroyed 17 devices making the seas safer for all those using it for both business and pleasure. As the exercise is still going on, the number of devices destroyed stand at 24 as of 22 May 2009.
